Dan, is running from the police considered resisting arrest? What class of crime is that?
Political background? Young Republcan?
what the hell is that supposed to mean, is that an attack on the College Republicans in the state, because if you want to trash on us, we can just stop doing the thousands of hours of volunteer work we do every election cycle....
he is a Green Party member for your information.
Jason is being fried on the TV news on Channel 8. It would not be the case if he was a democrat.
This is a minor infraction. There are 1000s similar infractions every year. The only reason this is news is because he is a young green on the school comittee.
I believe this is actually his second run in with the law.
He was clearly beaten as seen in the picture for Ch 13. The other pict must be from high school. He has had short hair as long as I have known him.
I wonder who hit him.
Toothaker won't lose seat over arrest

Portland school officials were busy on Tuesday dealing with fallout from last weekend's arrest of School Committee member Jason Toothaker, who allegedly skipped out on a cab fare.
Superintendent Mary Jo O'Connor said the committee's lawyer has advised her that no law allows for Toothaker's removal from the committee because he is charged with a misdemeanor and is in the final year of a three-year term.
Toothaker should learn his lesson
By Bill Nemitz
What's a school committee to do?
Here they are, charged with making sure Portland's children get the education they need to grow into responsible, law-abiding adults -- and then along comes Jason Toothaker.
Toothaker, a youthful member of the Portland School Committee, had a bit too much to drink Friday night. It happens.
But then he went out into the parking lot of an Old Port bar and, according to police reports, banged on a young woman's windshield until she called police on her cell phone.
From that beating, I'd say he's a real tooth acher now.
Well, he may not do any time or anything like that, but the embarassment of having his stove in mug broadcast on the news is a pretty good punishment.
The Whimp is not going to go to the Scholl meeting tonight.
Scene from Anchor Man, "LAY LOW"
If he does not have the guts to go to the meeting after being the drunk fool maybe he should not be a member.
Perhaps he is still cramming for tests.
Perhaps this outstanding, member of the school board should look at the issue and face his music that he wrote.
Banging on a womans windshield, causing a women to call the Police.
Sounds like he did not have a drinking problem but perhaps a harassment problem.
Question, what did the Police charge him with? He is lucky he did not get charged with running from the Police, reisting arrest.
From the article Paul posted above:
But then he went out into the parking lot of an Old Port bar and, according to police reports, banged on a young woman's windshield until she called police on her cell phone.
And then, after officers who responded told him to get lost or get arrested, he hopped into a cab with an empty wallet.
And then, at a stop light near Deering Oaks, he hopped out of the cab and took off on foot.
And then, he hid under a porch on Park Avenue before police shone their flashlights on his bright white sneakers -- they recognized them from the bar -- and told Toothaker, in effect, that recess was over.
This guy should resign his elected seat, plain and simple, and learn his lesson.
I disagree, however, that if he was a member of any other political party this incident wouldn't have gotten news coverage. Pure, unadulterated asinine behavior by an elected official is the bread and butter of the media.
In this case, richly deserved.
Keep that mug shot for his future political ambitions.
Hey he is a college student, and this is a mistake. It is not like he left a women for dead in his crashed car.
There is some story to the face being re-arranged.
Perhaps he is skipping the meeting to heal the real wounds from some other thug who beat him.
Another wag said it was a class 3 misdemeanor: impersonating a Kennedy without a trust fund.
Read today's Bollard for some history: this is a pattern of behavior - arrested in 2001 for pulling a knife in a fight and running from the cops. Charges dropped. Julie Finn knew of this incident, but took the high road during the election.
Such a pattern suggests to me that the kid is a punk or a drunk - either way, he has got to straighten himself out and does not belong on the school committee while he is doing so.
I wish him well, personally.
Good info francisz. Keep the mugshot and encourage him to run for higher office as a D.
Yes, he should resign.
I am going to let him be known as "Sneakers"
Jason "Sneakers" Toothaker
Something shines a light on me.
Hey tax payers, need to get "Sneakers" a gift, Wal-Mart has those Marvel Spider Man sneakers with Red lights, that kids love. Be sure to buy them today so you can give them to the school board tonight, because Jason "Sneakers" Toothaker will be absent, and it is the only way we can truely show our support for his status on the board.
Should Jason Toothaker Resign From The Portland School Committee?
Actually, if Jason learns to spin the truth, he could run for governor. In fact, except for the hair, he resembles the incumbent. Any form of deceit - spinning, lying, cheating - seems to go over with the Maine electorate.
Oh, BTW, how do you, Apollo and Naran, see LaMarche as a Republican? She could be a RINO, for sure.
From the poll site posted above:
TOOTHAKER WILL RESIGN
A member of the Portland School Committee didn't set a very good example for students in Maine's largest city, and now he plans to resign.
Good news. Clearly, he needs to grow up some before he takes on a serious position again.
I think overall he is doing the right thing for school system...
It wouldn't be the best thing for him to keep going on as a school committee member...
Question for Steven Scharf- What's next? Is there going to be a special election?
Yes (assuming he is resigning), there will be a spexial election at some point. We may also be having an at large councilor resigning because she is taking a new job in the Baldacci admin. There may also be a bond referendum because of possible changed plans with the library.
And there is a group gathering signatures to repeal the formula busines ordinace. More on this later.
Believe so, and Julie Finn will run for the seat.
Will the Green party be able to find a sober grown up with no criminal past to prop up? I doubt it, but I've doubted those kids before.
Zen Ben has been awfully quiet 'round these parts lately...
Something tells me we are going to have some police brutaility litigation from the looks of Jason.
Any credible witnesses?
How many people were under that porch, anyway?
They will find some one. I would like to find someone fiscally responsible. Don't you live in dist 3?
Ben has been around. He finnally got the fin chair post on the school committee.
You mean here on AMG.
portland  .
this guy sounds like nothing more than an out of control drunk.
from his track record he sounds like a jerk.
banging on a ladies windshield? what's that all about?
some people can handle their booze some get plain old stupid
"sneakers" here leans toward the later.
the story of his pulling a knife in a fight speaks volumes to his character and judgement
most dopey guys like this end up on the wrong end of their own knives.
Yes, I live in Dist. 3, but so do you. The forest city's most favored gadfly...
I don't have kids (in school).
Zen Ben has been awfully quiet 'round these parts lately...
Ben could be out shopping for new accessories after the drubbing Naran gave him.
I agree with you Steven, police restraint is possible. Seems like too many blows to have been simply running into a tree on his way to under the deck. Unfortunately, Jason may have been too drunk to remember.
Other possibilities? Maybe Jason used his face to beat on the woman's windshield.
Was it one of these Greens or someone else that got money from the Republicans last round?
