The golden Colossus of Trump looms over the national scene this summer like one of Jeff Koons’s giant, shiny, balloon-puppy sculptures — a monumental expression of semiotic vacancy. At the apogee of Trumpdom, everything’s coming up covfefe. The stock market is 5000 points ahead since 1/20/17. Little Rocket Man is America’s bitch. We’re showing those gibbering Asian hordes and European café layabouts a thing or two about fair trade. Electric cars are almost here to save the day. And soon, American youth will be time-warping around the solar system in the new US Space Corps!

Here's something differant

Seriously, why should anyone care what you write?

Isn't your "wasting my time" excuse for non-engagement also a waste of your time?

You missed the point, panjo.

You missed the point, panjo.

No, not really.
As a dedicated racist, misogynist, Trump supporting deplorable, I just wanted to use the word "excrement" in a sentence.
As a pick and pound typist, "shit", with fewer letters, is the usual.

And the climb up the ladder of depravity by the "little three" marches on....

I seem to be having pretty good luck bringing them to the hook......can we get us some help frying them around here?

What about hating people you think are Trump supporters so much that your only attempt at communication is an ongoing vulgar and insulting hissy fit? Isn't that bigotry, too?

One thing's for sure.

One thing's for sure. Mattzine can't tell the difference between a joke and bait.

Make that two: he has utterly failed to regale us with his proposed solutions to the problem posed. Matter of fact, he hasn't so much as tried.

He seems adept at called strikes. Which is quite a record; even a blind man could hit a hanging curve ball once in a while. But then a blind man would swing.

I can’t tell a joke. But it’s Udall who thinks lgbtq is a punchline. Uh, QED, moron (as he likes to write).

And when egomike takes to task any of the alt-right/racist/sexist/trumpswab apologists on the board for their despicable comments, it’ll be the first time. His silence speaks volumes, as they say.

Poor egomike. I think he knows better. But maybe not...

Matt -

Are you a reasonable adult or a four-year-old throwing a tantrum in the candy aisle?

It's not my role - nor should it be anyone's except the moderator's - to call out others for "despicable" ideas. Although it's my self-appointed job to discuss ideas, when I think what I read is misguided, wrong, or ignorant, I try to engage and persuade that other with alternate ideas in an exchange intended to persuade the other of his error (and perhaps to broaden my understanding as well).

If you care to read the AMG archives (yes, I know you won't waste your time), you'll learn I've addressed racism, anti-semitism, nativism, populism, and general ignorantism so often it's a sort of stock-in-trade. And that's what I'm trying with you. I don't think you're despicable. Based on the evidence, I think you're puerile and self-absorbed.

It's not my role to find "despicable" ideas in order to insult and punish "despicable" people. Not going to happen. The only way to exercise moral authority in an internet forum like this is to earn it. You earn moral authority by respecting others and seeking to understand their views in the most charitable light.

Let's say - just for counterfactual argument's sake - that I agreed with you about certain racist comments. Would you be happier with Economike if he responded "Hey, you're a racist" to every one? And, more to the point, would that be an effective way to bring others along toward Truth and Goodness? How's that tactic working for you, Sunshine?

Just for giggles, I ran this through the disgrontificator, and here's what I got:

"I can't begin to touch (or understand) Economike's arguments, so I'll pretend that he's a racist or some word that sounds equally icky so I can be cool (in my own mind) and above actually attempting to respond to him on something resembling an intellectual plane. And since "racist" is a Really Bad Word, I can just call anyone I don't like a "racist" and that will be the only thing I ever need to say."

Economike, btw, sure sounds like he's thriving nicely, rather than "dying a little on the inside".

Not the trolling it is the attached profanity innuendo crudeness etc. that goes along with it.
It is that ,that takes away from the occasionally valid statement.

Even a POS can be correct and a POS, not necessarily a DPOS though .

I don't follow. If someone comes here and works and then rents a room, how does that impinge on property rights?

There's a good podcast about

There's a good podcast about the history of our immigration policy:
http://revisionisthistory.com/episodes/25-general-chapman's-last-stand

The TL;DL is that prior to hard line immigration policy, the vast majority of workers came, worked, and then went home to their families - because the cost of crossing the border was essentially zero.

As we started enforcing immigration policy, the cost increased, and the unintended consequences were that the workers couldn't just go back and forth, so they started bringing over their families. And thus... anchor babies were born.

If we had just made a legal path for them to come, work, and go home, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today...

Agreed AC. One thing I've always believed is that we need a separate "temporary work" visa, distinct from all the other types. Paid for by the employers bringing in the temp workers, so that cost is no barrier. So many of the excuses are based upon *not* having that simple expedient.

That's BS, A Coward, I've read 74% of illegals that come here end up on the welfare rolls. Look at the migrants flooding the EU.

How about a guaranteed wage for all Americans or any one that can set foot here?

All this migrant/illegal immigration is an attempt to get a free lunch at the expense of the "pre-existing residents".

AND towards the end, completely destroy the people and sovereignty of a nation, invade a nation without planes or tanks, just millions of foot soldiers.

Agreed. A large part of the illegal immigration problem is that legal (temporary) migration and legal immigration are made nearly impossible by both law and bureaucratic obstruction. The consequence of the system is that it filters out the most productive workers in favor of the least productive. (Not always because the illegals are less skilled, but because undocumented employment is under-capitalized.)

I suspect the broken system arose from nativism and labor unionism, both impulses seeking to exclude immigrants from the labor market.

Milton Friedman wrote that a nation can have expansive welfare or open immigration, but not both. (As the ever-judicious Mike G.'s citation of his careful and extensive research suggests.)

There is probably some of that, though the vast majority of Mexican immigrants do farm labor, which white people don't seem to do very much any more.

I was not thinking so much of the current effects of the system, but of its ideological origins. Nativism began in reaction to Irish immigration (leading eventually to immigration policies for preferred national origins), and the labor movement effectively created the current restricted system in the 1920's.

addendum: I should also add that a lot of illegals are Asian, European (especially Irish, who maintain family ties), and Central American. I suspect that Mexicans are a minority of illegals. The Europeans and (to a lesser extent) the Asians are less conspicuous.

A Coward

A Coward

I'd suggest that your support of illegal immigration is very fashionable, you feel their pain, but seemingly you don't feel the pain of your fellow "pre-existing residents". The fact that they wallow in debt and under employment and unemployment.

My memory goes back to the posting of one George that I believe presently sits at some judgeship in Maine, who once said, I'm paraphrasing, I welcome the immigrants into this country, because they far pass the lazy SOBs that reside here.

This is the mindset of fashionable people like you, the central powers within the deep state support that mindset, but ask the people of the EU, and citizens of the southern states that have moved out or bear the hardship of the millions of foot soldiers.

You can have your polite contrite discussions of how to solve the immigration issues, but you forget those "pre-existing residents" as some call them, who are left behind.

A brain worm for the fashionable
