Fire officials were forced to

Fire officials were forced to evacuate the area surrounding East End Beach Sunday night after a fireworks trailer caught fire.
The finale of the Portland fireworks show had just ended when unused fireworks inside a trailer at the beach somehow ignited and erupted into a fireball.

Now how do unused fireworks "somehow just ignite and erupt"...there has to be a reason. This is not the first time this has happened in Portland in recent years. The last time it was during a presentation and people got hurt. My next question would be, why didn't they use them all and if they were for another show...you would think they could have found a safe place to store them. I am also glad that nobody got hurt this time.

I was in my boat in the harbor the last time something like this happened and I can say it was a bit scary listening to the police and fire calls and wondering if we'd end up with chunks of flaming phosphorus on the deck.

Glad to hear there were no injuries this time. I attended the Kennebunk fireworks last night, and some questioned whether a few of those rockets went in the "wrong" direction, rather than towards the sky. It looked that way from where we were sitting, but I don't know for sure.

Here's a photo from the WMTW site, above, showing the Portland fireball:

The other day Howe Carr spoke

The other day Howe Carr spoke of how un-American it is to have a ban on fireworks in MA. I think Maine is one of only 5 states that have banned the use of small grade fireworks due to the 80’s push by the State Fire Marshal. It would be interesting to know how Libby Mitchell voted back in the 80’s on this issues.

Anyhow, here we find a “controlled” and “permitted” fireworks show put on by the professionals and poof up in smoke. I find it rather bizarre that we celebrate our independence by lighting off fireworks that are made in the communist county of China. Even more bizarre is that our liberty to have a private show with communist made bottle rockets is considered a misdemeanor.

Is this the same company that had the accident a few years back?

You just don't hear of accidents happening very often, but when they take place twice in the same city...it really makes you to wonder.
